"01" turret number

A T-34 mod. 1943, probably belonging to the 5. (verst.) Pol.Pz.Kp., captured by the 2nd New Zeland Division advancing towards Trieste on 2 May 1945. Note the unusual Balkenkreuz (with an external black border) and the 01 turret number. In front of the tank is a Gebirgsjager officer, probably from the 188. Gebirgs-Division; in the background what seems to be a heavily camouflaged marder III ausf H on a sonderhänger 116.

T-34/76 mod. 1943 photographed in Trieste at the beginning of May 1945, in Garibaldi Square, with Yugoslav crew. The side stowage box is similar to those seen on other T-34 tanks of the 5. (verst.) Pol.Pz.Kp., and seems to confirm that this tank belonged to that unit. Over germans cross put jugoslavian flag.

Mechanics of the yougoslav 1st Tank Brigade repair workshop photographed near a germans T-34/76 tank in Basovizza. This vehicle was, thanks to the effort of the mechanics, repaired to driving conditions and was seen driving through the streets of Trieste during the next days with other 1st Tank Brigade vehicles. Note a Notek light bracket near driver hatch.
